 Abstract:
Microstructures and properties of electric arc sprayed cored wired coatings were investigated and compared in this work. Three types of cored wired studied were Ni-WC-Cr-Si-B cored wire (Ni-WC),Fe-WC-Cr-Ni-TiC cored wire (Fe-WC)and Fe-WC-Mo-B nano cored wire (Fe-WC-nano. The as-received cored wires were also characterized prior to spraying. The in-flight particles were collected during spraying in order to reveal particle morphology and size distribution forming splats. Size distribution analysis of the core-filler particle showed that Fe-WC-nano cored wire had a comparable mean filler particle size with that of the Fe-WC cored wire and both were larger than that of the Ni-WC cored wire. The difference in filler particle size of the starting cored wires were well correlated with the in-flight particle sizes produced. Fe-WC-nano cored wire coating showed the lowest roughness and porosity compared to other coatings with a comparable hardness to that of Ni-WC cored wire coating.
