 Abstract:
Atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) is a cost-effective way to produce solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) components. Apatite-type lanthanum silicate compound has been widely used as electrolyte materials for intermediate temperature SOFCs (IT-SOFCs). In this study, the La10(SiO4)6O3 electrolyte layer was deposited by APS with sintered and agglomerated powders to examine the effect of different sintering time and particle size of powder feedstock on the mechanical properties of La10(SiO4)6O3 coating. The microstructure of La10(SiO4)6O3 ceramic coating was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Electrolyte layers sprayed by an injection of the La10(SiO4)6O3 powders with long sintering time into the plasma show the best results.
