 Abstract:
The cold spray process, a dynamic powder consolidation technique, produces low density materials with high strength and toughness with an extremely versatile processing system. A through-process model was developed to be utilized as a predictive tool to determine optimum alloys and processing parameters for the cold spray process, from powder production and pre-treatment to cold spray processing and post-processing. This model allows for prediction of final consolidated properties as a function of powder and processing parameters, reducing costly trial and error methods. Model predictions are compared with experimental microstructure, microchemistry, and mechanical properties of both the feedstock powder and consolidated product.
