 Abstract:
In this paper, the thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are prepared by atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) using a novel yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) powder feedstock. The complex structure of nanostructure and amorphous phase is the main structure of the novel YSZ powder feedstock. Processing parameters of atmospheric plasma spraying are optimized for the novel YSZ powder feedstock, according to the microstructure of YSZ TBCs. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are used to analyze the phase structure and microstructure of YSZ powder and coatings. Experimental results show that the novel YSZ powders are spherical, have good flowability, which are suitable for plasma spraying process. The microstructure of optimized TBCs is better comparing to the conventional YSZ TBCs.
