In recent years, there have been growing interests in bulk amorphous alloys since these alloys have quite unique properties much different from those of conventional materials. When a crystalline structure converts into amorphous metal, the strength and toughness as well as corrosion resistance will be improved as a structural material. Even though a lot of research on bulk amorphous alloys, particularly Fe based amorphous alloys, has been conducted owing to their economical advantages, because of the strong brittleness and low elongation, they seem inappropriate to be utilized as structural materials. As a result, to overcome this drawback in bulk ferrous amorphous alloys, we made ferrous amorphous alloys powders which we would like to coat practically, and examine the properties of the coatings. To manufacture powders of ferrous amorphous alloys, we used pig iron from blast furnace as main compositional elements in these alloys. And also we utilized a gas atomizer in order to produce the powders of ferrous amorphous alloys. Using HVOF spray gun, we thermally sprayed the produced powder and observed microstructure of the coating layers. Not only that, we evaluated wear resistance of the coatings by using a sand abrasion tester.
