 Abstract:
The thermal spray coating generally comprises the ejecting of solid particles which are melted quickly and solidified on target surface to be coated. One of the important sub-groups of thermal spray technique is twin wire arc deposition. The arc occurred between the two wires causes the wire tips to melt. An atomizing gas drives the droplets on target and coating deposition. The selection of a thermal spray coating depends on the desired service life, environmental condition, and the maintenance and repair support provided during the life cycle. Zinc and aluminum are widely used as spray coatings for iron base alloys.

Zn, Zn/Al, Al coatings were produced by using twin arc spray system for various gas pressure and arc current parameters. Microstructure, hardness, surface roughness and adhesion strength of the coatings were investigated by using standard characterization methods. Test results show that increasing atomizing gas pressure increased mechanical properties and surface quality. In the other hand the process current have an important role on the microstructure, mechanical properties and surface quality.
