 Abstract:
CFD technology was applied to calculate flow fields of free fall atomizers used in powder metallurgy and spray forming technology. Results showed that the gas convergent angle has remarkable effect on pressure and velocity distribution of flow field. Pressure field at the tip of nozzle enhanced and even eddy appeared with the increase of convergent angle. To make sure a stabilized melt flow, an additional confined nozzle was used as the stabilization gas. No eddy was formed and pressure was reduced at the convergent point with the introducing of stabilization gas.
