 Abstract:
Microplasma spray(MPS) is one of new spraying process just like scale-down the conventional one with 1-5mm spray spot size and is known as useful coating technology applicable to small sized parts as well as a functional coating with complicated surface profile. To get a uniform coating on serrated surface, hydroxyapatite coatings thickness from 50um to 80um were obtained by MPS on outer surface of steel substrate with a different aspect ratio (depth/width) ranging from 1 to 3. The coating thickness was measured by microscope on the groove and thickness variation was analyzed by coating process parameters such as current, spray distance, size and shape of powder, transition rate of gas etc. The spray distance was a key parameters, amongst spraying parameters, in controlling the thickness uniformity in MPS process. The surface morphology, crystallinity, phase of Hydroxyapatite coatings was extensively investigated as well. For analysis of HA coating, Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive analysis (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis are used to investigate the surface morphology, phase and crystallinity of HA coatings. Also, surface roughness of HA coatings was carried out by surface profiler and a quantitative analysis was made to optimize the process control.
