Despite the many available joining technologies, joins between dissimilar materials always present their own special difficulties. This article looks at a technique that is currently under development. It takes its inspiration from a mechanism that is already well-known in nature, and more recently in the technical sphere ? mechanical interlocking. This joining technology is based on a surface structure being arc-welded to the metallic part of the components to be joined, thereby introducing an additional form-locked component into the join.
