 Abstract:
Marine environments are severely corrosive for different structural materials like mild steels. finding new corrosion resistant coatings with longer lifetimes is still a challenge.
Corrosion properties of thermally sprayed titania (TiO2) coatings are not covered completely yet. These ceramic coatings are hard with low porosity levels, high densities, high bond strengths and good crack propagation resistance which make them candidates for corrosion protection. In this study air plasma sprayed (APS) titania coatings are deposited on mild steel (A36) substrates. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) tests were applied to measure the corrosion resistance properties of samples in seawater. Results Show quite good corrosion resistance for titania coated mild steel.
