 Abstract:
Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) is commonly used for protecting surfaces against oxidation and hot wear. The Top Coating provides Thermal isolation to the alloys that work at high temperatures and the Bond Coating protects the substrate from oxidation. This work analyzed the application of two different alloys by HVOF process, a NiAl and a NiCrAlY. As Top Coating was deposited 8YSZ alloy using Air Plasma Spray (APS) process. The process parameters were optimized to obtain coatings that are adherent and wear and oxidation resistant at high temperature with the purpose of increasing the working temperature of these components. Tests were performed of microhardness, adherence and wear at high temperatures for both alloys and their microstructures were studied. Preliminary results showed that the process parameter optimization provided high adherence and wear and oxidation resistance at high temperatures and the NiAl alloy was presented as a possible substitute to the traditional alloys used as Bond Coating.
