In this study, plasma sprayed coatings of unreinforced Al-12Si and Al-12Si/SiC have been prepared on stainless steel substrates. The Al-12Si/SiC composite powders including 25 50 wt% SiC were prepared by mechanical alloying process. These powders were deposited on stainless steel substrate using atmospheric plasma spray technique. The coatings have been characterised with microstructure, quantitative phase analysis, microhardness, XRD and SEM-EDX analysis. The friction and wear experiments performed under dry and distilled water conditions using a ball-on-disc configuration against Al2O3 counter material for 2N and 5N loads. Wear was calculated in terms of weight and volume loss. Wear resistance of coatings of unreinforced Al-12Si and Al-12Si/SiC was compared. After wear experiments, wear surfaces were investigated at stereo microscope and SEM and were analyzed with EDX.
