 Abstract:
Al2O3 ceramic coatings were prepared by the supersonic plasma spraying technique. The microstructure and properties of Al2O3 coating were characterized using XRD, SEM, microhardness tester and tribometer. coating porosity was calculated through the Image-pro Plus graphic software. The results indicate that there is almost no change for phase compositions between the initial powder and the as sprayed coating. The coating possesses a low porosity of 1.5%, high microhardness, HV0.3, of 1600 and surface roughness (Ra) of 5.2¼m. A typical porous lamellar structure is observed in the fracture surface of the as sprayed coating. The dry sliding wear at room temperature shows that Al2O3 coating has a friction coefficient of about 0.5 and the only relevant wear mechanism of abrasive wear.
