 Abstract:
The effects of mixing powders with various particle sizes on the fracture toughness and wear resistance of thermally sprayed WC10Co4Cr coating layers fabricated by the HVOF (High-Velocity Oxygen Fuel) process on a St37 steel substrate were investigated. The microstructure and chemical composition of the phases in the coatings were characterized by means of the SEM and XRD techniques. Image analysis was used for the evaluation of the porosity of the coatings. Microhardness tests were carried out on the cross sections of the coatings to evaluate the hardness and fracture toughness. Wear test was done in CSM-linear wear test machine with 0.15 m/s, 0.3m/s constant sliding speed under 5N, 7N, and 9N loads for 200 m. Worn surfaces of specimens were studied by SEM, EDS analyses techniques. It was observed that friction coefficient and wear value were changed in accordance with load. Friction coefficient values of coated specimens were lower than that untreated samples. Wear resistance was increased in coated samples.
