 Abstract:
The pure materials are not resistant to corrosion and several methods are used in surface engineering to protect them from aggressive environments such as marine, based on modification of surfaces by energetic ion bombardment produced through cathodic arc plasma was utilized for the production of bulk Cu and CuAl substrate. Coatings were characterized by several methods to result in a screening of their performance. At first, the assessment of microstructural morphology by optical microscopy (OM) and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was made. OM and SEM results showed uniformity of deposited layer, low amount of oxides and porosity. The physical properties of coatings were also evaluated by microhardness measurement and size of grain quantification. The corrosion and wear resistance were analyzed with tests.
