 Abstract:
Three types of Cr3C2-25NiCr thermal spraying powders with nano-sized, micro-sized and bimodal structure were prepared using spray drying and sintering process, and the corresponding coatings were fabricated by High Velocity Oxygen Fuel spraying technique. The microstructures and phase compositions of the powders and corresponding coatings were studied by metalloscope, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffractometer, respectively. In addition, the microhardness, abrasive wear and corrosion resistance were also investigated. The results indicate that all powders are nearly spherical and exhibit good flow-ability as well as high deposition efficiency. And all the three coatings are composed of the similar phase compositions and exhibit high bonding strength with substrates. Compared to the micro-sized coating, the nano-sized coating has a denser microstructure, higher microhardness and better corrosion resistance, but lower fracture toughness and abrasive resistance. The bimodal Cr3C2-25NiCr coating, however, combines the advantages of nano and micro-sized coatings, exhibiting the best comprehensive performance.
