 Abstract:
In this paper, micropost array titanium surfaces with various widths (150 - 1000 ¼m) and intervals (100 - 300 ¼m) were fabricated by novel template-assisted plasma spraying technology. Microstructures of the patterned titanium coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), stylus Profiler (HOMMEL-ETAMIC T8000). In vitro cytocompatibility were evaluated by MC3T3-E1 cells culture system. Results show that the cells exhibited a significantly higher proliferation and osteogenic differentiation on the patterned titanium surfaces compared with the traditional coating. The best cell proliferation and differentiation behaviors were obtained on the pattern with 1000 ¼m width and 300 ¼m intervals. The cell proliferation and differentiation decreased as the sizes of pattern decreased. The present micropatterned coatings proposed a new modification method for the traditional plasma spraying technology to enhance the early cell responses and convenience for the bone in-growth.
