 Abstract:
To prevent carbon/carbon(C/C) composites from ablation,a double-layer coating was prepared on C/C composites by atmospheric plasma spray. The coating consists of an inner buffer layer of ZrB2 and SiC composite and an outer layer of mullite. The phase composition and microstructures of the as-prepared multilayer coating were characterized by XRD,SEM and EDS. The anti-ablation property and mechanism of the coatings were particularly investigated. The results show that the outer layer coating mainly composed of crystal mullite phase and was well bonded with the ZrB2-SiC inner layer. Ablation resistance of the ZrB2-SiC/mullite coating was obviously superior to that of single ZrB2-SiC coating, which was attributed to the fact that the mullite coating could effectively prevent oxygen diffusion and improve the stability of the SiO2 glass during the ablation process.
