 Abstract:
The nanostructured WC-CoCr coating was fabricated by the high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying using a new type of WC-CoCr powder, in which the Co-Cr exists in a form of solid solution. The Co-Cr alloy powder was prepared by the oxalate coprecipitation process and subsequent calcination. Detailed characterizations were carried out on the phase constitution and microstructure of the Co-Cr powder and the cermet coating, as well as the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the coating. The results show that the nanostructured WC-CoCr coating has greatly improved corrosion resistance as compared with the conventional WC-Co coating and WC-Co-Cr coating where Cr exists as single metal. The effects of the existing and distribution state of Cr in the cermet coating on the corrosion resistance were analyzed.
