 Abstract:
Nano crystalline WC-Co particles have the advantage over its conventional micro-sized counterpart in producing coating with better wear and corrosion resistance.Nevertheless, due to its low mass and thermal inertia the particles are agglomerated to form micro-sized agglomerate. The powder feed stock of such a kind is known to have more tendency toward phase transformation and decarburization during thermal spray process. Some research investigated the thermal and dynamic behavior of liquid suspension of nano crystalline powder feed stock. However, no investigation has been conducted to study dry nano crystalline agglomerate. Eddy dissipation modelling, mass continuity and the use of the Navier-Stokes equation togather with RNG and the equation of state were all adopted to simulate the subsonic/supersonic combustion flow of an Oerkilon Metco Air Cooled DJ 1050 HVOF.The dynamic and thermal behavior of nano crystalline WC-Co agglomerate was accounted for through a lagrangian fashion interaction with the continuum field. The momentum and thermal history of the agglomerate are discussed and presented.
