 Abstract:
Hearth roll is the key component in the continuous annealing furnace of steel industry, it is used for long periods in a weakly oxidizing or reducing atmosphere at high temperature. Thermal spray technology has been widely used to protect the hearth roll for extended periods at elevated temperatures. In this study, NiCoCrAlYTa + 10% Al2O3 powder was thermally sprayed onto the grit-blasted Cr28Ni48W5 heat resistant steel substrate by supersonic atmospheric plasma spraying (SAPS). The microstructure and properties, like adhesion strength, oxidation resistance, wear resistance and thermal shock property of the coating was systematically evaluated. According to the result, the coating structure is dense and adhesive well with the substrate, it also has good thermal shock resistance and excellent wear resistance, which could become a potential candidate in the hearth roll coatings.
