 Abstract:
The individual Ti particles were deposited on Ti6Al4V and 316L stainless steel substrates in different accelerating gas temperature. In order to examination the plastic deformation of Ti splats and impacted substrate, the morphology of deposited particles and substrate surface was examined by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the deformation of splats and substrate was influenced by the accelerating gas temperature and spray distance in addition to substrate materials. With the increment of accelerating gas temperature, there appeared some cracks on the surface of deposited particles and ripple on substrate. Meanwhile, there also existed some revers and gaps on substrate around splats in the condition of the accelerating gas temperature of 500°C. In addition, the hardness of substrate also had some effect on individual particles deposition. The degree of the particles embedded in the substrate decreased, and the cracking and fracture of impacted broke also occurred when the hardness of substrate increased. Meanwhile, Ti coatings were also sprayed on Ti6Al4V substrate, it was found that the microstructure of Ti coating was denser with the increment of accelerating gas temperature.
