 Abstract:
In this study, YSZ coatings were deposited on different substrate materials (stainless steel 304L, Aluminum 1050, and ceramics) using suspension plasma spray (SPS) technique. The effects of substrate properties on the formation of coatings were investigated. SEM analysis revealed that the microstructure of as-prepared coatings could be tailored from vertical cracked structure to columnar structure by combination of substrate surface topology, substrate temperature, and substrate material. The effects of substrate properties on the porosity and the mechanical performance of the coatings were studied as well.
