 Abstract:
The growth behavior of thermally grown oxide (TGO) on the bond coats of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) has a great impact on the TBCs life time. In this study, bond coats with the same thickness of TGO were subjected to isothermal oxidation with different oxygen partial pressures. Results show that the TGO on the bond coats with different isothermal oxidations presented different growth behavior. The higher the oxygen partial pressure of the oxidation atmosphere, the faster the TGO thickness increases. It is revealed that the gradient of the oxygen partial pressure plays an important role in affecting the TGO growth behavior. This research will benefit the lifetime prediction of TBCs, and contribute to the development of long-life and highly reliable TBCs.
