Abstract: |
Wear-resistant cobalt based alloy (Stellite 12) coatings deposited by plasma transferred arc (PTA) were modified by adding hard ceramic particles (TiC) and solid lubricant compounds (MoS2 and CaF2) in order to improve their tribological performance. In this study, microstructural and tribological analysis were carried out, and results were compared to those obtained for plain Stellite in order to assess whether the addition of solid lubricants was effective to the wear behavior. Hardness was measured too, to evaluate whether and to what extent the lubricant compounds affect the Stellite properties. Moreover, the effects of the variation of deposition parameters such as current and powder feed rate on the final coatings were investigated. SEM and EDS were used for the microstructural analysis, while tribological behavior was investigated by block-on-ring experiments, followed by profilometric analysis on the tested samples.
