Low thermal conductivity thermal barrier coating sprayed with SPS and APS

 Abstract:
Low thermal conductivity (K) values for coatings manufactured through Air Plasma Sprayed (APS) and Suspension Plasma Sprayed (SPS) for 7 wt% Yttria Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) powder produced from the Emulsion Detonation Synthesis (EDS) process. SPS and APS Thermal Barrier Coatings (TBCs) show a 30% and 20% reduction respectively in thermal conductivity when compared to the APS benchmark. These results are provided along with furnace cycle tests show durable low K coatings that are attainable without the use of exotic rare earth materials.
