 Abstract:
Very low pressure plasma spray (VLPPS), or low pressure plasma spray-thin film (LPPS-TF), operating at the pressure of 1 mbar, has been extensively studied in recent decade. In this study, YSZ coatings were deposited with different spray parameters by VLPPS using plasma gun F4-VB and the plasma characteristics were also measured by optical emission spectrum (OES). The OES patterns indicated that more particles with the size range of 10-25 ¼m can be evaporated when using higher spray power, meanwhile the more condensation of YSZ vapor can be found in the coating. However, due to the limited spray power, the as-sprayed coatings exhibited a hybrid microstructure of splat and vapor condensation. A completed columnar microstructure of coatings cannot be obtained.
