 Abstract:
Stress generated in the formation of coatings is an important factor that needs to be understood and controlled. Residual stress affects the properties of material which can lead to premature failure due to cracking or delamination of coating. Cold gas spray should minimize these problems due to the mainly compressive stress obtained, which improve the properties of coatings in comparison with conventional thermal spray techniques. The aim of this work is the development and characterization of thick Inconel 625 coatings obtained by cold gas spraying with the lowest possible residual stress. The influence of substrate material, thickness of coating and temperature of substrate were studied substrates in order to evaluate the effect in residual stresses. These stresses were determined by curvature approach, measuring deflection and temperature of the coating-substrate. The magnitudes of the residual stresses were mainly dependent on the substrate/coating material combination.
