 Abstract:
In this work, five kinds of WC and Cr3C2 based cermet coatings were deposited by liquid fueled high velocity oxygen-fuel spray process. The basic mechanic properties of the cermet coatings as well their abrasive, sliding, slurry erosion wear behaviors and corrosion resistance were compared with electrolytic hard chrome (EHC) coating. The results show that all the HVOF sprayed coatings displayed better abrasive, sliding, as well as slurry erosive wear resistance than EHC coating except for the NiCr-Cr3C2 coating which showed a differing result. Although the EHC coating demonstrated the lowest corrosion current density among all the coatings, the differences between the EHC coating and HVOF sprayed WC-10Co4Cr, WC-Cr3C2-NiCr and NiCr-Cr3C2 are small. In addition, salt spray corrosion resistance of HVOF sprayed WC-10Co4Cr and WC-Cr3C2-NiCr coatings are lower than that of EHC coating, which can potentially be used as a replacement for the EHC coating.
