 Abstract:
This paper aims at presenting how R-VLPPS nitriding post treatment could tailor the surface activation and the diffusion of N species in Ti based coating and how it can increase the amount of TiN phase in it. For that, either a continuous or alternating in situ R-VLPPS nitriding post treatment was carried out on the as sprayed coatings, namely Ti or TiN coatings manufactured by VLPPS or R-VLPPS, accordingly. Following in situ post treatment, surface morphologies of such coatings exhibit nanoparticles agglomeration, their cross section analysis reveal very dense coating. The coating composition matches with TiN and TiN0.3 phases whose ratio depends on the working conditions. Results show (1) an increase of the intensity of TiN peak, (2) the formation of numerous nanoparticles (3) significant mechanical properties enhancement with an increase of hardness and Young Modulus (4) the transformation of TiN inTiO2 with age.
