 Abstract:
Cold spray is no longer restricted only to thin coatings but establishes itself also as an additive manufacturing technology. This development broadens application fields of cold spray, however residual stress can generate distortion which dramatically damage functionality of the cold sprayed components. To study residual stress formation and evolution during cold spray deposition of different powders, a curvature-based approach was used. The substratecoating system deflection and temperature were monitored throughout the coating deposition process. The effect of different substrates materials, the effect of scanning strategies (bidirectional or cross hatching) and finally, the effect of different hatch distance between successive passes were investigated. The understand of how the residual stress evolve with increment of thickness of the coating is important to prevent premature failures on components obtained by additive manufacturing. The residual stresses of different thicknesses obtained by two different equipment were measured by different techniques. The objective of this work is make a relation between the DRX and ICP techniques of residual stress measurements of different coatings obtained by Cold Gas Spraying. Also, 3 point bending tests were carried out in order to evaluate the crack formation, propagation and delamination in the deposits produced via cold spray during monothonic and cyclic loading. Finally, the cracking mechanisms were studied through SEM observations.
