 Abstract:
There are various methods for evaluating brazeability. One is to evaluate the properties of the brazing filler metal and the other is to evaluate the properties of the brazed joint.
Brazing filler metal properties are evaluated by the spreading test method, gap filling test method, and fillet forming ability. On the other hand, it is said that the evaluation of brazing filler metal properties is difficult because the same tendency may not be obtained by the spread test method and the gap filling test method.
Therefore, our laboratory has investigated a new method of brazing filler metal property evaluation.
In general wetting and spreading tests, brazing filler metal is placed on a thin metal plate, heated and melted, and the area and contact angle after wetting and spreading are measured and evaluated. In this study, we focused on the limitations of this method, and devised and proposed a new evaluation method for brazeability (wettability).
Specifically, the new method evaluates the wetting spread by measuring the external shape of the wetting spread accurately in three dimensions.
In this presentation, we will introduce the wetting spread of Ni brazing filler metal on stainless steel and that of silver brazing filler metal on copper alloy.
