 Abstract:
Foil, powder and wire type brazing filler metal are fabricated by conventional brazing filler metal manufacturing methods until now. A brazing filler metal composition fabricated by conventional manufacturing methods depended on phase diagrams. We concluded that a different manufacturing method from the conventional one is necessary for the research of new brazing filler metals.
Therefore, in this laboratory, Ag-based prototype brazing filler metal and Al-based prototype brazing filler metal was produced by using the new manufacturing method.
The characterization of the prototype brazing filler metals was evaluated using thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, SEM observation, and EPMA analysis. Brazeability was also evaluated by spreading test and microstructure observation of the cross-section of the brazed joint.
From the estimation results, it was checked that the performance of the brazing filler metal was similar or better than that of the brazing filler metal produced by the conventional manufacturing method.
