 Abstract:
It is well known that radial powder injection yields a substantial deviation of the spray cone relative to the spray nozzle axis. This deviation is mainly affected by powder injection parameters, but also by the powder and the plasma plume characteristics. This study seeks to improve the spray deposition accuracy when using robotic operated plasmatron by developing an algorithm to predict the deviation. A design of experiment was proposed to assess the offset of the sprayed powder based on statistical analysis of the spray deviation with respect to the spray parameters as well as the powder characteristics. The acquired results are used to correct the tool angle so that the powder is always deposited on the targeted area.
