 Abstract:
The HVAC&R market covers a big family of products and represents a vast market worldwide for thin wall metal tubing. Copper has been and still is the dominant tube material of choice within HVAC&R but there is a strong drive for a conversion from copper to aluminium as the material of choice.

Tube and fin (T&F) heat exchangers are the most common design used for all-aluminium heat exchangers for HVAC&R applications. Inherent corrosion resistance of the aluminium tubes is a critical factor for the lifetime of the T&F heat exchangers as the aluminium tubes are not protected by fins at the hairpin bends and return bends. Hydro Extruded Solutions Precision Tubing has developed a new alloy Hydro 9159. This alloy has significantly higher inherent corrosion resistance as compared to both AA 3003 and Zinc Arc Spray (ZAS) coated AA 3003, and can be used to replace ZAS coated AA 3003 alloy for increased lifetime of HVAC&R applications.
