 Abstract:
TRILLIUM® is a composite material combining non-corrosive flux and braze filler metal for aluminium brazing. This gives an aluminium brazing filler metal that does not require separate fluxing. Furthermore, having the flux inside the brazing filler metal it remains protected from early oxidation and allows interaction with the oxide layer from within. During brazing, the flux melts inside the metal, but does not attack the oxide until the filler metal melts allowing flux to migrate to the surface. Thus, the flux is used more efficiently and less is needed.
TRILLIUM® Preforms are engineered joining solutions for use in brazing of aluminum components. They are made of pure TRILLIUM® composite and are currently available in the form of wire and rings, to suit the different applications.
Compared to flux cored wire products, TRILLIUM® Preforms offer improved joint formation and brazabillity thanks to: more precise and optimized flux content, that results in a more repetitive brazing behavior; even distribution of the flux in the metal matrix composite, meaning that less flux can be used; and smaller grain size of the brazing filler metal alloy that provides better melt behavior.
Furthermore TRILLIUM® Preforms can easily be made in a wide range of forms, shapes and sizes, and they offer longer shell life, easier handling and a product that is less affected by storage environment. All in all, giving you a more cost-efficient product.
This paper introduces the concepts of TRILLIUM® Preforms, describes the potential use of said product for flame brazing and Controlled Atmosphere Brazing and includes examples from different applications.
