 Abstract:
Mechanical and fatigue properties of cold sprayed Cu22Sn bell metal were tested in order to assess the applicability of cold spray to repair impact areas of church bells. Similarly to other cold sprayed deposits, it was shown that both the strength as well as the fatigue crack growth rates at low loading are comparable to cast bell metal. Contrary to these, the fracture toughness was reduced by the relatively low ductility of the deposit, as was the impact erosion rate determined by periodic impact test. Despite these limitations, the cold sprayed bell metal appears to be capable repeatedly increase the service life of historical church bells.
