 Abstract:
Low silver content brazing filler metal, TB-640(40Ag-26Cu-23Zn-5Mn-4Ni-2Sn), was developed and introduced recently. TB-640 showed sufficient brazing performance to Cu, brass and mild steel compared to Ag 156. In this study, brazing performance to cemented carbide was investigated compared to Ag 450.
TH-640 showed excellent wetting and spreading behavior to the carbide which is better than Ag 450. Joint strength of carbide to carbide and carbide to mild steel showed higher shear strength than Ag 450.
From the analysis results of the cross section of the joint and the observation of the fracture surface after the shear strength test, it was found that the fracture mechanisms of carbide to carbide and carbide to mild steel were different. It affected the difference of joint strength.
Over all, TB-640 showed better brazing performance than Ag 450.
