 Abstract:
Although electronic communication media are penetrating our life more and more the paper remains the information carrier no. 1 and, thus, one of the most improtant consumablees on earth since milleniums. Paper industry is still facing intersting growth rates on world wide basis. New concepts in paper making, latest development in the technology and machinery as well as an on-going balancing in the global market accompany this product surrounding. Resources, efficiency and product quality rule todays paper production and treatment. Recent development in machinery is fascinating in both quantity and quality out put. Production speed, tons per day as well as the quality of an e.g. printed paper raise highest demands on the respective technology and machinery. In a paper machine or a printer a lot of properties given to th product are transferred by rolls. These rolls, and especially their surfaces, must not only stand certain loads and impacts. Their design influences the runnabilty, menas the production costs significantly. The presentation dicusses the influences of thermally sprayed roll surfaces in papaer making and printing in examples, giving an overiew on the requested demands in this industrial area.
