 Abstract:
Al alloy coatings (Al-Zn, Al-Mg, and AlMg) were prepared by cold gas dynamic spray process (CDSP) and characteristics of porous Al alloy coatings after post-annealing were examined. The powder particles were accelerated by highly pressurized air through De Laval type nozzle with the pressure of 8 to 1.5 MPa (prior to enter). The coatings of composites were annealed in N2 atmosphere for 4 hrs. The Zn and Mg in the coatings were diffused into Al matrix by eutectic reaction between Al and Zn or Mg when the coatings were annealed. And with increasing annealing temperature, the Zn and Mg particles were consumed to create the fine pores inside layers. In the case of Al/AlMg multi-coatings, the dense/porous layers of coatings by post-annealing were formed (diffusion of Mg into Al matrix). Conclusively, the size and distribution of pores in the coatings can be controlled by parameters such as diffusion materials and processing parameters.
