 Abstract:
Nano particles have the potential to revolutionize the coating characteristics. This is because of the fine grains which give nano materials its peculiar properties. Newer techniques of nano powder production and effective deposition of these fine coating powders are under development. The challenge before developers is to retain the nano grains in the coated structures. In the present study we have tried to deposit nano particles of NiCrAlY using High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF). The coating retains the nano grained structures because of higher particle velocity and sufficient particle temperature. Since in HVOF the particle velocity and the particle temperature can be controlled effectively HVOF was selected for depositing the coating. The coatings were examined using metallography, TEM, SEM, EDAX and XRD techniques. Further the nano crystalline coatings were compared with micro crystalline coatings for its high temperature resistance properties using TGA.
