 Title:
Direct manufacturing of titanium pipe by cold spray

 Authors:

 Abstract:
A new cost effective Direct Manufacturing technology for producing seamless Titanium pipe directly from powder has been developed using Cold Spray. Direct manufacturing is an emerging field of interest and titanium pipe making via Cold spray route is quick and energy efficient eliminating the need for conventional manufacturing methods such as casting, extrusion, machining, welding and forging. The Cold spray process is also suitable for depositing oxygen sensitive materials such as titanium and does not require vacuum or atmospheric control. Results demonstrate that directly manufactured Cold spray titanium pipe achieves high mechanical strength in the as sprayed and heat treated conditions. Metallurgical and chemical results are presented and compared to conventional manufactured titanium pipe.
