 Abstract:
Different types of composite Cr2O3- and Al2O3-based powders were manufactured via spray drying and sintering from nano- and sub-micron feedstock. Spray drying process was optimised. Effect of different sintering conditions on grain growth and agglomerate strength were studied. Coatings were deposited by applying different types of thermal spray systems. Influence of the heating and cooling rates on coating structure and properties were studied. Highly metastable structures and unusual properties were obtained for Al2O3- and Cr2O3-based coatings. Powder and coating characterisation included detailed microstructural as well as electrical, thermal, thermo-chemical and mechanical property studies.
