 Abstract:
In the present work, influence of sealing treatments of thermally sprayed coatings on their corrosion, wear and high temperature performances were studied. A moderate adhesion and a porous structure are the most often encountered problems in thermal-spray coatings that restrict their use in many applications involving corrosive media. The coatings usually contain open, through-coating porosity, and usually also cracks, particularly in ceramic coatings. These structural flaws not only weaken the corrosion resistance of the coating-substrate system but also can decrease mechanical properties and consequently the wear resistance of the coating. Therefore, various sealing treatments are an option to upgrade the coatings properties so that marked improvements in corrosion properties, wear performances and also high temperature characteristics are obtained. The present study reports several interesting improvements in the coating properties and demonstrates the effectiveness of sealing treatments in solving technical problems set by various demanding thermal spray coating applications.
