 Abstract:
Electron beam welding has been carried out in the pure Nb which has super conducting properties at 4K. The welded joints have been evaluated using light microscopy, hardness tester and tensile testing machine. Light microscopy shows that weld metal and heat affected zone(HAZ) are formed in large grain zone. So, we can't find out fusion line. The result of micro-hardness test in this area also indicated the softening zone due to grain growth. The optimal welding condition was founded by studying welding parameters(beam current & focal point) and analyzing bead shape with microscope at the same accelerating voltage (130kV). Finally, we have made 9-cell cavity by electron beam welding. This cavity was evaluated by magnetic field characteristics. We have obtained 98% of field flatness in this cavity.
