 Abstract:
Electron beam welding is a key technology for joining complex and expensive components like parts from engines, gearboxes or turbines of the aerospace, the automotive or power plant industry. The operating company of the welding machines expects a consistent approach to quality assurance.
First is the backup of production data. Assigned to the individual workpieces quality-related production data are logged. The system operator can specify limits for welding parameters, which lead to a warning or a reject of workpieces. The visualization of the data allows the operator to react on changes in the production processes.
In addition, increasingly methods are requested which allow a direct statement about the quality of the product. Procedures examining the weld quality can be integrated into the production process.
New technologies like the fast beam deflection allow continuative testing. Using imaging methods the quality of the joint or the electron beam can be examined. Automatic control loops enable optimizing process parameters to ensure excellent welding results.
An overview of the state of the art quality assurance on electron beam welding is given. Examples of quality control procedures are presented.
