 Abstract:
The Jülich Research Center (Forschungszentrum Jülich) developed for more than four decades innovative technology solutions for national and international research centers. In particular, special materials such as niobium, tantalum, zirconium, molybdenum, as well as aluminum and steel materials are used in demanding welding constructions. With the electron beam was and is a universal joining methods available, which allows almost any joint task to be solved in the best quality. 40 years of electron beam application at the Research Centre Jülich will be presented with some specific technically interesting examples.
From foil to thick sheet, from aluminum to zirconium, the range of examples shows the great variety which is required in research topics. Application instructions for the preparation, welding processing and finishing of welding constructions, as they are observed mainly for special materials will be given. The importance of electron beam welding in the scientific apparatus engineering and perspectives of future applications are presented.
