 Abstract:
With the rapid developing of economy, China has gradually become a manufacturing giant in the world. Welding is one of the most important technologies of materials forming and processing in modern manufacturing industry.
Based on the overview of recent development in welding technology in China, the strategies for future advancement in the concerned fields of welding are proposed. On the one hand, in traditional manufacturing industries such as railway car body production, welding and automation should be further integrated to ensure the weld quality and consistency. On the other hand, considering the dominant role of iron and steel in the structural materials, welding metallurgy and high grade welding consumables for the new type metal materials should be promoted. As the largest electronic producer all over the world, the research and development of lead-free soldering materials and packing techniques are eagerly needed in China. The study and application of high energy density welding such as laser beam welding, plasma welding and electron beam welding should be encouraged to enhance welding quality or productivity. The numerical simulation of welding process such as thermal process, welding metallurgy, residual stress and deformation should be deeply investigated in future welding Industry. Finally, intelligent welding and control are becoming development trend in modern welding industry. A lot of research work needed to be done for China in this respect.
