 Abstract:
From the appearance of HVOF thermal spray system on 1980s, WC cermet coatings have been used as an antiwear coating in many industrial manufacturing. Recently, WC cermet spray materials were applied to new thermal spray method such as HVAF, Warm Spray and Cold Spray for improvements of coating property, spray efficiency and so on.
There were many reports of evaluation of nano structured WC cermet coatings by using lower temperature spray process than HVOF. On the other hand, metal binder size in the feed stock powder was almost micron size in many reports. However, it is considered that metal binder size is more important in the case of solid phase deposition such as HVAF, Warm spray and Cold spray than studying in HVOF.
In this study, we evaluate the influence of metal binder size of WC cermet on HVAF and Cold spraying. In the case of WC-Fe alloy cold spraying, coating consists of the finer metal binder was harder than coating consists of coarser metal binder. In addition, wear property and deposition efficiency of HVAF spraying become well, when metal binder size was fine.
