Abstract: |
In recent years, silver was doped in hydroxyapatite structure to obtain antibacterial hydroxyapatite structure to prevent the bacterial colonization. Hydroxyapatite is especially used in biomedical application like orthopedic and dentistry to provide osteoconductivity. 1 mole % silver doped into the hydroxyapatite (Ca9Ag(PO4)6(OH)2) structure with ion exchange technique while precipitation. In this study chemically precipitated silver doped hydroxyapatite particles were granulated by spray drying method for using the particles in plasma spray technique. Spray drying were made the particles spherical for good flowability without decomposition the structure and made the particle size distribution ideal for plasma spraying. Silver doped hydroxyapatite particles were coated on stainless steel with plasma spraying. In-Vitro bioactivity test was made in SBF (Simulated Body Fluid) for 21 days and compare with pure hydroxyapatite coatings. However hydroxyapatite has excellent bioactivity, biocompatibility, increasing amount of silver causes increasing cytotoxicity. The microstructure of layers and phase structures were investigated with X-Ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy.
